International Scientific Challenge: We Are Writing a Chapter for the Prestigious Elsevier Publishing House!

04.06.2024

The activity of the Genesys Student Research Club is not limited to practical programming — it also includes serious scientific work. We are proud to announce that a group of our members has taken on a challenge that goes far beyond traditional student projects.

Our students — Mateusz Fudala, Arkadiusz Knapik, Hubert Orlicki, Julia Polak, and Sylwia Zemła — have begun work on a chapter for a scientific publication issued by one of the largest and most prestigious publishers in the world: Elsevier.

Research Topic and Objectives
The topic our team is addressing connects advanced computer science with medicine:
“Diagnosis of schizophrenia using convolutional neural networks based on multi-channel EEG signal.”

Due to the complexity of the subject, the project has been divided into several key stages:

  1. Research and knowledge: The first step is an in-depth study of the literature and acquiring specialist expertise in biomedical signal processing and the specifics of diagnosing mental disorders.
  2. Implementation (CNN): Next, the team will develop an original application based on convolutional neural networks (CNN). The model will be trained and tested on official, verified medical datasets.
  3. Theoretical section: In parallel, a comprehensive theoretical description will be created, analyzing the obtained results and methodology.

The entire work will undergo a rigorous scientific verification and peer-review process, which is standard for international scientific publications.

This is a great distinction for our Club and an opportunity to make a real contribution to the development of science at the intersection of medicine and AI. We are keeping our fingers crossed for our research team!
